Since February 2023, almost 100 public administration institutions in Vorarlberg - the state, 96 municipalities and the Gemeindeinformatik GmbH as an organization close to the administration - have been working together in a Fabasoft eGov-Suite installation. V-DOK, short for Vorarlberg Document Management, a unique project in the entire German-speaking region, is a prime example of efficient and modern cooperation between different administration levels.
Meanwhile, the Fabasoft eGov-Suite supports around 3,500 officials in their daily work. The use of a single eGov-Suite domain offers numerous advantages, both for employees and citizens: For example, direct and fast communication between employees and streamlined task processing contribute to significant cost savings. In addition, a single eGov-Suite is less expensive than running many stand-alone installations. In the future, mail handling between the state administration and the municipalities will be free of media discontinuity. In addition, deputies can continue to work seamlessly in the event of illness. As a result, citizens can obtain information about their files more quickly and benefit from rapid processing of their requests.
The success story
The state of Vorarlberg invited tenders for the joint V-DOK project in 2008. In 2009, Gemeindeinformatik GmbH commissioned Fabasoft to implement this digital cooperation. One year later, seven pilot municipalities were working together in an eGov-Suite installation. By 2014, Fabasoft added 40 municipalities with around 600 users. Shortly thereafter, these 40 municipalities and their entire data inventory were integrated into the existing ELAK system of the state of Vorarlberg. With the incorporation of further municipalities into the V-DOK project in February 2023, Vorarlberg reached an important milestone in the digital transformation of public administration.
