The participants at Fabasoft egovday 2024 in Vienna were unanimous: administrative processes can be automated in around 60% of cases. This shows how great the potential is for more efficient public administration.

Matthias Wodniok and Bastian Drugowitsch opened the event with a keynote speech in which they highlighted the main topics of the day:

  • The role of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation in the public sector
  • The transformation towards cloud native
  • Innovations and innovative features in the Fabasoft eGov Suite

They emphasized the importance of using AI and Cloud-native implementations for optimizing administrative processes and increasing efficiency in public administration. The subsequent presentations and break-out sessions underlined the importance of these topics.

Opportunities and potential of AI in the public sector

Christian Inzko, CTO of the Office of the Carinthian Provincial Government, presented how Done! on Fabasoft eGov fully automates the application process for photovoltaic systems in Carinthia. This saves the office time resources and promotes accuracy in the individual work steps.

Chatting with the file

Stefan Arnold presented how the latest product innovations of the Fabasoft eGov-Suite provide concrete answers to the current challenges of public administration. Using various live demos, he showed, among other things, the signature folder, everything to do with the further development of the Fabasoft app and the stamp with metadata.

As a special highlight, he demonstrated the Mindbreeze InSpire AI Chat, which, with the new “Chat with the file” function, enables the simple generation of summaries taking into account the existing data pool.

Automation of routine tasks

Christian Distelberger and Stefan Grasserbauer from Fabasoft showed how Done! on Fabasoft eGov uses intelligent technologies to automate manual and repetitive tasks and make more efficient use of existing knowledge. By classifying and assigning incoming mail, checking for completeness and dispatching, Done! acts as a digital assistant throughout the entire workflow. Every process step is fully documented and traceable.

Rule creation using natural language

As part of a technology preview based on Mindbreeze AI, Christian Distelberger presented the “assisted rule editor”. This enables users to create automation rules using natural language and without programming knowledge.

Efficient session management

Boards on Fabasoft eGov, presented by Stefan Hänni, optimizes collaboration in committees and simplifies meeting management. By connecting all participants and providing an intuitive user interface, Boards enables secure preparation, efficient execution and transparent documentation of meetings. In several live demos, Hänni demonstrated how Boards maps the entire application life cycle and thus ensures greater efficiency and transparency in decision-making processes.

Cloud native: the future of IT infrastructure

Cloud native technologies offer new dimensions for application operation. Fabasoft speakers Christoph Jerschitz and Daniela Stadler presented why a traditional monolithic software architecture is increasingly reaching its limits in modern data centers. Switching to a cloud native architecture offers numerous advantages, particularly in terms of agility, scalability and resilience.

Agility and scalability through cloud native

In the guest lecture, Harald Henry Maderbacher from the Federal Computing Center emphasized how important Cloud native technologies are for more agility and scalability in the operation of the Fabasoft eGov-Suite. The flexible deployment process makes it possible to update individual modules independently, which shortens throughput times and increases reliability. Fabasoft and the Federal Computing Center continue to work closely together to efficiently integrate the new technologies into the existing IT infrastructure and continuously improve them.

Successful practical examples and outlook for the future

Citizen-oriented administration with low-code/no-code

In their presentation on Fabasoft Online Services, Peter Haunold and Laura Lakatos emphasized the need for administrations to use flexible tools in order to be able to react quickly to citizens' requirements. Currently, many applications are not fully digitized and the processing status remains opaque. Using the example of the online service portal of the state of Lower Austria, they showed how low-code/no-code and AI support the digital transformation of administrative processes. They also demonstrated that the Fabasoft eGov-Suite enables direct processing and integration of Freedom of Information Act (IFG) requests.

ELAK in the federal government

In his Customer Success Talk, Benedikt Schraik provided insights into the project “bPK ELAK - Blueprint for bPK equipment with the Fabasoft eGov-Suite in the Vienna City Administration”. He emphasized that the eGov-Suite, as an essential technological platform, plays a key role in the integration of the ELAK with the BPK equipment. The aim is to expand the ELAK so that it can communicate automatically with other specialist information systems and receive and send citizen data efficiently. This represents an important step towards a fully networked and automated administration.

Shaping the administration of the future

Sourcing International emphasized the importance of the eGov community. Despite full work schedules, an average of around 20 people took part in the Fabasoft Community Days and worked together on five topics chosen by the community. The focus was on interactive discussions and informal exchanges, with customers contributing their concerns and ideas. The event created space for collaboration and provided an outlook on future developments.

Fabasoft egovday 2024 in Vienna provided insights into how successful projects and the use of intelligent solutions are advancing the digital transformation. A big thank you to everyone who made Fabasoft egovday 2024 a successful and inspiring event.
